Trading can result in losses#
The value of currencies, crypto assets and shares can fall as well as rise, sometimes quickly. You may get back less than you put in. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.
Leverage magnifies losses#
Leveraged products, such as CFDs, spread bets, margin trading and many crypto derivatives, let you open a position larger than your deposit. A small price movement against you can cause a large loss relative to the money you put in, and positions may be closed automatically.
Depending on the product, provider and country, you may be able to lose more than you deposited. Check the terms that apply to your own account.
Past and hypothetical results are not a promise#
Historical performance, back-tested results and hypothetical examples do not show what will happen in future. Examples on SafeTrading illustrate how something works. They are not forecasts or expected returns.
Our content and calculators have limits#
We aim to be accurate, but information can be incomplete or become out of date. Fees, rules and products change.
Calculators depend on the figures you enter and the assumptions they state, and they simplify real trading conditions. Confirm costs, margin requirements and other figures with your provider before you trade.
General information, not personalized advice#
Content on SafeTrading is general information and education. It does not take account of your objectives, finances or experience, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything. If you need advice for your situation, consider speaking to a regulated, independent adviser.
Protections vary#
Customer protections depend on where you live, which company holds your account and what you trade. Many crypto assets are not covered by the protections that apply to regulated investments. Do not assume a protection applies to you without checking.
The SafeTrading name#
