FTMO Review 2026

The longest-running of the big forex prop firms, based in Prague since 2015. Its 2-Step challenge has a fixed loss limit, no time limit and a refundable fee. The newer 1-Step and Instant accounts pay more but use trailing limits.

A strong default for forex and CFD traders who want clear, published rules and a long track record. The 2-Step split starts at 80%, and US residents get a narrower version with two platforms through FTMO x OANDA.

How the FTMO Challenge works

FTMO sells three routes to a funded FTMO Account. The 2-Step Challenge has a Challenge phase with a 10% profit target and a Verification phase with a 5% target. The 1-Step Challenge has a single 10% target. The Instant Account has no evaluation: you pay a higher fee and trade a rewards account from the start.

Both challenges have no time limit. The 2-Step needs at least 4 trading days in each phase, and you must open your first trade within 30 days of getting each phase or access is suspended. Every account is a demo account; FTMO's FAQ says all its accounts use fictitious funds in a simulated environment.

The table shows the 2-Step list prices from FTMO's pricing data on 25 Oct 2026. FTMO charges in euros. It was also running a deal of €439 for the $100K 2-Step.

FTMO drawdown rules explained

On the 2-Step, the daily loss limit is 5% of the starting balance, measured from your balance at midnight Prague time. Closed losses and open losses both count. The maximum loss is a fixed 10% below the starting balance, so a $100,000 account fails if equity touches $90,000. That line never moves up.

The 1-Step is tighter. Its daily limit is 3% of the starting balance, and its 10% maximum loss trails your highest end-of-day balance. It only moves up, never down. A Best Day rule also applies: for accounts ordered from 12 Oct 2026, your best day must be no more than 50% of total profit. FTMO says going over that is not a rule breach, but it affects reward eligibility.

The Instant Account has a 3% daily limit and a 10% maximum loss that trails your highest balance during the day, and its best day must be no more than 30% of total profit to request a reward.

FTMO payouts and profit split

You can request your first reward on the 14th day after your first trade on the FTMO Account, once all positions are closed. FTMO says it reviews the request within 1 to 2 business days and usually sends the money within 1 to 2 business days after the invoice is approved.

The 2-Step starts at an 80% reward split and can rise to 90% through the scaling plan or Premium Programme. The 1-Step and Instant Account pay 90% from the start.

Payment methods are bank wire, Visa Direct or Mastercard Send (up to $20,000), Skrill (up to $3,000) and crypto. The minimum is $20 of closed profit for bank and card transfers and $50 for crypto.

The scaling plan applies to accounts from either challenge, not the Instant Account. After four months with at least 10% net profit and two processed rewards, the account grows by 25%, up to $2,000,000 across all your FTMO Accounts.

Platforms and instruments

Outside the US, FTMO offers MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader and TradingView. The US site, ftmo.oanda.com, offers MetaTrader 5 and TradingView only.

FTMO's FAQ says you can trade every instrument available on your platform, which covers forex, indices, commodities, stocks and crypto. The Instant Account has leverage of up to 1:100, lower on indices, metals and crypto.

Costs, refunds and limits

The 2-Step fee is refunded with your first reward. FTMO's refund FAQ says the 1-Step and Instant Account fees are not refundable. Under its terms, a fee is not refundable once paid unless agreed otherwise, and failing a challenge does not earn a refund.

Instant Account fees run from €169 to €2,999 depending on size. Across all your challenges and those of anyone affiliated with you, total starting capital cannot exceed $400,000.

Trading restrictions

News: on Standard accounts you cannot open or close trades from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after a restricted news release on the affected currency. This only applies once you trade an FTMO Account, not during the Challenge or Verification. Swing accounts have no news restriction.

EAs are allowed, including algorithmic strategies, as long as the strategy could be replicated on a live account. FTMO warns that a third-party EA used by other traders can push you over its capital allocation limit. Servers allow up to 200 open orders and 2,000 positions a day.

The terms say only you can trade your accounts. Letting a third party trade for you, trading in coordination with others, or managing accounts for someone else is banned. FTMO also lists forbidden trading practices on its site and can treat oversized or out-of-pattern positions as a breach of its risk management rules.

Inactivity: FTMO can end an agreement if you open no trade for 30 consecutive days, or if an account sits at an 8% to 10% loss for more than 30 days.

Countries: FTMO does not serve nationals or residents of Iran, Syria, Myanmar or North Korea, with a narrow exception for some EEA residents, and lists about 100 other restricted countries and regions on its Who can join FTMO page.

  • Break the daily or maximum loss limit: the challenge or account is failed
  • Forbidden trading practices: positions can be removed, the account rebalanced or terminated, with no refund
  • Hit the consistency limit on 1-Step or Instant: not a breach, but it holds back reward eligibility

Who owns FTMO and where it is registered

FTMO is not a broker and is not regulated. Its terms say its services are not regulated financial services and that it is not supervised by the Czech National Bank or any similar authority, so you do not get the protections of a regulated firm.

Challenges and Instant Accounts are sold by FTMO Evaluation Global s.r.o., registered office Purkyňova 2121/3, Prague 1, Czech Republic, company ID 092 13 651. The Czech Commercial Register shows it was registered on June 2, 2020. The parent brand, FTMO s.r.o., at the same address, was registered on June 24, 2014.

In the US, the challenge is provided by JV Prop Corporation, a US-registered FTMO Group company, and the funded rewards account by OANDA Prop US Corporation, an OANDA group company. The US site says none of these services are overseen by a financial regulator and that you have no client relationship with OANDA Corporation.

Our verdict

FTMO is the benchmark the rest of the industry is measured against: a long history, two named Czech companies on the public register, rules published in detail and a refundable 2-Step fee. The 2-Step is the account to pick for most traders, because its 10% loss limit stays fixed.

The catches are an 80% starting split on the 2-Step, news limits on funded Standard accounts, and trailing loss limits on the 1-Step and Instant accounts. US traders can join, but only through the FTMO x OANDA site with MT5 or TradingView.
