Pip Value Calculator
What a one-pip move is worth in dollars for your position size, on the major pairs and gold.
- Value of 1 pip
- $10.00
- Standard lot (1.00)
- $10.00
- Mini lot (0.10)
- $1.00
- Micro lot (0.01)
- $0.10
One pip on EUR/USD is 0.0001 in price.
How it works
- Pairs ending in USD
lot units × pip size- Pairs starting with USD
lot units × pip size ÷ price
Worked example
- On USD/JPY a pip is 0.01, and a standard lot is 100,000 units.
- 100,000 × 0.01 = ¥1,000 per pip.
- At a price of 150, that is ¥1,000 ÷ 150 = $6.67 per pip.
What counts as a pip
On most pairs a pip is the fourth decimal place, 0.0001. On yen pairs it is the second, 0.01. Many brokers quote one more digit; that extra digit is a pipette, a tenth of a pip.
Gold has no single standard. Most brokers and signal services treat $0.10 of price as one pip, which is what this calculator uses. Check how your provider counts before comparing results.
Questions
How much is 1 pip on EUR/USD?
$10 per standard lot, $1 per mini lot and $0.10 per micro lot. It stays the same whatever the price, because the pair is quoted in dollars.
How much is 1 pip on gold?
Using the $0.10 convention, $10 per lot of 100 ounces. A $1 move in the gold price is therefore 10 pips, or $100 per lot.
Why does my broker show a different pip value?
Your account may be in another currency, or the broker may use a different lot size for gold or indices. Its contract specifications page lists both.
